Blind Dave to fly a plane ?

Blind Dave has already completed a number of challenges set by BBC WM’s Mid morning Presenter Adrian Goldberg: “Dave is a real “have a go hero” but this is his biggest challenge yet. He’s already driven a steam train on the Severn Valley Railway, and gave me a smashing haircut, but can a blind bloke really fly a plane? Well, there’s only one way to find out. I have been with him every step of the way so far, but there’s no way I’m going up in that plane with him. Seriously, Dave is a fantastic guy and will always try out something new. But this is a truly brave gesture.”

Blind Dave Heeley has teamed up with BBC WM’s Adrian Goldberg to take on a series of challenges in support of the radio station’s Red Alert Appeal. The aim is to raise as much money as possible to fund research nurses who will offer life saving drugs to leukaemia patients who could otherwise die. Find out more about the appeal at www.redalertappeal.com. The first challenge took place on Monday August 6th when Dave drove a steam train at the Severn Valley Railway. After successfully completing that challenge, Blind Dave has now set himself the task of cutting Adrian’s hair!

BUS FOR LOCAL HERO BLIND DAVE HEELEY

Local marathon man ‘Blind’ Dave Heeley and his Olympic Torch today launched a bus named in his honour by National Express West Midlands.

Staff at National Express West Midlands Pensnett garage named a bus after Blind Dave to honour his amazing achievements for local charities including his epic seven marathons in seven days across seven continents. Dave was recently torchbearer on the Cobridge leg of the relay. When told of the naming Dave thought it was a practical joke and did not believe it until the bus operator contacted him about launching the vehicle.Dave has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities and also visits local schools and businesses as a motivational speaker.

Drivers at the Pensnett garage were given a vote to name 10 of the garages 21 new buses. Drivers also picked local heroes such as Busby Babe Duncan Edwards and a MI6 agent known as the British Schindler Frank Foley. Blind Dave Heeley said:

“I am very proud and privileged to have been given this honour. I am so touched that the drivers at the National Express West Midlands Pensnett garage thought of me when asked to name their new buses. I want to thank them for doing this – I can’t wait to bring the kids down during the summer holiday to ride a bus named after their Dad!”

The bus will carry thousands of passengers on the 120 service between Dudley and Birmingham via Oldbury everyday. Peter Coates, Managing Director, National Express West Midlands said: “Dave is an exceptional man whose achievements for charities are breathtaking. I hope that people will share our pride as they board our brand new bus named in his honour.”

Albion

THE ALBION Foundation was delighted to announce at Saturday’s game that Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown and ‘Blind Dave’ Heeley have agreed to join Adrian Chiles in becoming official ambassadors for its charitable work.

All three have helped put the Football Club and the town of West Bromwich firmly on the map and, to mark the occasion, they were presented to the crowd during the half-time interval of the derby win against Blues.

The trio have pledged to support and promote the Albion Foundation, a registered charity working in partnership with the Club to provide sporting and educational opportunities for the surrounding communities.
