Blind DaveIs it itchy feet, that ‘can do spirit’ or simply Deb wants Blind Dave out of her hair for a couple of weeks whilst she decorates the kitchen?

As she says ‘Dave and an open tin of paint just don’t go together’ so he’s at it again. Not satisfied with running 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents, he now wants to explore Britain from top to toe – that’s John O’Groats to Land’s End – with a difference.

In August 2011 he intends to run AND cycle almost 1000 miles in 10 days – all for Macmillan Cancer Support.

2011 marks the charities 100th anniversary. For a number of personal reasons – and the fact he’s been raising money for them for a long time – Dave wants to raise awareness and lots of money!

As Dave says ‘Cancer’s effects touch all of us. I lost both my father and father-in-law, and then lost my last guide dog to cancer. Very recently it’s terrible consequences hit home again when it claimed the life of a long time friend of over 35 years.
Staggeringly one in three people develop cancer during their lives.
That’s a frightening statistic!

The journey starts on 10th August – the very birthday in 1884 of the charities founder Douglas Macmillan.
To celebrate their 10 decades in existence, Dave will complete the gruelling journey in just 10 days.

And what a challenge! Each day will start with a marathon run of 26.2 miles, then a cycle to the
next destination – an average 75 miles.
And just in case you were worried, Dave will be on the back of a Dawes tandem.

So on the 10th August, we’ll be running out of John O’groats with a marathon, then jumping on the Dawes tandem and covering the remaining miles by cycle to Inverness.

The following morning, once again a marathon, then the remaining miles onto Loch Lomond on the tandem. Next day it’s off from Loch Lomond, with yet another marathon, followed by a cycle ride onto Gretna Green.

Then so on and so forth, down the country, through the 10 days finishing in Lands End.

The first three days will cover well over 100 miles each day, which will hopefully help the legs for the remaining 7 days. We do say hopefully!

It’s certainly going to be a John O’groats to Lands End (JOGLE) with a twist, Blind Dave’s Top to Toe.

So, one man, 10 marathons, nearly 1000 miles, and one Dawes tandem.
